The Myth of Done Back to Journal →

Wednesday, August 5, 2026

The Sagrada Família has been under construction since 1882. Gaudí knew he wouldn’t live to see it finished, and more than a century later, there’s still a crane parked in the middle of the skyline.

Standing in front of it, I kept thinking about how much energy we all spend chasing "done" and how rarely that’s actually the goal worth optimizing for. The building is one of the most visited sites in Spain, unfinished the entire time. Nobody’s waiting around for the ribbon-cutting to appreciate it.

I don’t think that means you shouldn’t finish things. Just that it was a good reminder standing there that "still in progress" and "not worth looking at yet" aren’t the same thing.
