Goals for Paul.IO

Paul.IO is my attempt at coherent banter on topics surrounding technology and it’s impact on everyday life.  Although my degrees are in Mathematics and Computer Science, I always considered myself to be somewhat of a closet English/Literature fan and I hope to expose that side of me through this blog.

Here’s my deal: thanks to some odd rules and a very liberal curriculum, I managed to graduate from Skidmore College in three years with two degrees.  About a week later I accepted a position at a large (privately owned) pharmaceutical company as a Software Engineer I, a position I enjoy to this day.  At the same time, though, I started my own company called Snowdrop Media to expand my knowledge in SEO, SEM, business development, and general online marketing/branding strategy, while simultaneously sharing that knowledge with small businesses and individuals.

Goals

My short term goal is to be geographically independent by 25.  That is to say by my mid-twenties I hope to make the Internet my sole source of income – and a very comfortable income, I might add – so that I can live wherever I want and travel as I please.  More recently, Snowdrop has seen some pretty extraordinary growth and has me pleased and somewhat frightened at the prospect of actually achieving my goal.  However, consistency is the heart and sole of any business, especially a bootstrappin’ startup, so real success is yet unproven.

Interests

Back to me, I love modern design, minimalism, the Yankees, fudge brownie chocolate ice cream, a good book, and ignoring television except for HBO’s Entourage.  I live in Western Connecticut, a region defined by it’s proximity to the behemoth that is New York City.  I love the country but would also like to someday try my hand at city life.  Since purchasing my first house in early April 2008, I’ve taken a keen interest in architecture and hope to one day invest great sums of money in real estate.

So, there you go.  Although many first posts are of the “hit the ground running” variety, I felt compelled to acknowledge the fact that I’m just starting out by offering a brief biography.  Hope you enjoy!
